The semi was northbound on Highway 2, while the smaller vehicle, carrying the three players, was driving east across the intersection.

Unfortunately, all three players in the passenger vehicle, two 18-year-olds from Kamloops, British Columbia, and a 17-year-old from Alabama, USA, died at the scene. The driver of the semi, a 40-year-old man from Stavely, sustained minor injuries and was treated on the spot.
